OUR STORY....

Established in June of 1999, The Starving Artist opened for business. The historic Day’s building that was built in 1876 and has been a hub of foodservice in Ocean Grove ever since.  Owner/operator, Arnold Teixeira, is no stranger to the restaurant business. At the age of 13 his parents opened The Avenue Deli in New Providence, NJ and then after 9 years moved to the Toms River area where they opened landmark eateries such as The Food Bazaar and Arnold’s West End Café.

After a short stint in the corporate world, Arnold found his way to Ocean Grove as manager of The Bath Avenue House.  There he delighted guests with made to order breakfasts and special events for five summers.

In 1998, Philip and Karla Herr were looking for someone to take over the historic eatery at Day’s and proposed that we should entertain the prospect.
